Positions


Ph.D. Student

One fully funded Ph.D. position in Environmental Engineering for Fall 2024 or Spring 2025 is available in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA). Applicants with a great passion for research and a background in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Modeling, Chemical and Material Engineering, or any other closely related areas are welcome. Our current research interests include water resource recovery, wastewater treatment, membrane filtration engineering, environmental applications of nano technologies, environmental chemistry, and environmental systems modeling.

Successful candidates are expected to obtain a Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering. Generous financial support will be provided for successful candidates to attend academic conferences, seminars and workshops, and visit other institutions (whenever necessary). Some admission requirements are listed as follows:
• A master’s degree is typically required. Students with a bachelor’s degree are also acceptable for outstanding applicants.
• A competitive Graduate Record Exam (GRE) score: 158 (Q) + 148 (V) or above. Lower scores are acceptable for outstanding applicants.
• For applicants whose native language is not English, English proficiency test scores are required: 550 on the paper-based TOEFL, 79 on TOEFL iBT, 50 on the SPEAK, 148 on Verbal GRE, 86 on MELAB, or 6.5 on the IELTS. (MELAB and IELTS are used only when other tests are not available in the applicant’s country. GRE score can be waived for applications for Fall 2024.)

Visiting Scholar / Student

Our group is highly interested in hosting visiting scholars or students who are passionate to conduct cutting-edge research in environmental engineering. The start date is flexible. Interested scholars or students are encouraged to contact Dr. Chen through email. Please indicate your desired duration of the visit in the email.
